RingCentral’s full business phone service is not permanently free. RingEX offers a limited free trial for eligible new subscribers, after which ongoing service requires a paid subscription. RingCentral also advertises free video meetings, but that is a separate offering and should not be confused with a free business phone system.
The answer depends on which RingCentral product you mean. A free app download, a meeting invitation, a trial and a paid phone license are different things. This 2026 guide explains those differences and the costs to include before signing up.
Information was checked October 2, 2026. The verified figures below refer to the US pages where stated. Regional offers, account eligibility, billing commitments and final quotes can differ.
What Can You Use for Free?
| Option | What It Means | Important Limit |
|---|---|---|
| RingEX trial | Temporary evaluation of eligible business communications. | 14 days for eligible new subscribers; SMS is excluded from trial use. |
| Free video meetings | A separate advertised online-meeting offering. | Check current limits; it is not an ongoing free business-phone subscription. |
| App download | Installing software on a supported device. | Paid or eligible account entitlements still govern service access. |
| Joining a meeting | Participating in an invitation-based session. | Participation does not grant the host’s business-phone license. |
Identify the task first. Joining colleagues online is different from receiving customer calls on a company number. For the wider product picture, see our RingCentral review.
RingEX Free Trial: Duration and Restrictions
The US RingEX pricing FAQ describes a 14-day trial for new subscribers, supporting up to 20 phone lines. It also describes use of the app and up to two desktop-phone devices during the trial.
The FAQ lists calling and collaboration functions available for evaluation but explicitly excludes SMS. If customer texts are essential, arrange a demonstration of the exact eligible configuration rather than expecting the phone trial to prove that workflow.
Trial hardware must be returned within 21 days of trial cancellation to avoid hardware charges under the published FAQ. Confirm the instructions and conditions that apply before ordering equipment.
What Happens After the Trial?
Ongoing RingEX service requires a paid arrangement. Check the accepted signup terms for conversion, billing date, payment authorization and the process for ending the trial. A general trial headline does not establish that every offer requires no card or ends automatically.
Save the confirmation and put the trial deadline in your calendar. Evaluate ordinary employees, devices and connections before deciding whether to continue.
RingEX Pricing: Core, Advanced and Ultra
RingEX public materials identify Core, Advanced and Ultra tiers. Select the tier by your required tools rather than assuming the cheapest plan reproduces every feature shown in a demonstration.
The current public pricing page uses user and billing selections, and its retrieved text did not expose stable base-price values for all three tiers. This guide therefore does not present unverified seat rates as a current official quote. Obtain the amount for your country, user count and billing term.
- Core evaluation: Check the essential business calling and communication requirements against the actual feature matrix.
- Advanced evaluation: Confirm the additional administrative, integration and analytics capabilities your team needs.
- Ultra evaluation: Identify the extra tools you will use and whether they justify the incremental quote.
The US page advertises savings of up to 33% with annual payment. That is a maximum promotional comparison, not a guarantee of the same discount for every account.
Ask for: Tier name, price per required license, payment schedule, initial commitment, renewal conditions and a list of included versus additional features.
AI Receptionist Pricing and Usage
The US AI Receptionist pricing FAQ lists two starting arrangements:
- Standalone: From $49 per month, including 100 minutes.
- RingEX add-on: From $39 per month, including 100 minutes, in addition to the relevant RingEX cost.
The FAQ states that additional pay-as-you-go usage is $0.50 per minute, with purchasable minute bundles also available. Call time is rounded up and billed in 30-second increments.
Illustrative calculation: If billed usage totals 150 minutes and the account uses the published pay-as-you-go rate beyond 100 included minutes, 50 additional minutes cost $25. The standalone starting subtotal would be $74 before applicable fees or other items. Confirm how the provider measures your usage.
Both advertised AI Receptionist arrangements have a 14-day trial. This is not proof that the AI product is permanently free or that its trial conditions are identical to RingEX.
RingCX and Other Products Have Separate Costs
RingCX is the contact-centre product. Its US product page advertises a starting figure of $65 per user per month; confirm the eligible offer, term, usage and tools in the written proposal.
Customer-engagement bundles, specialized analysis and other services can add further costs. Being integrated with RingEX does not mean a service is included in its base subscription.
Ask whether employees need RingEX licenses, RingCX licenses or both for the intended setup. Compare a contact-centre quote with equivalent agent requirements rather than a basic phone rate.
Our contact-centre guide helps define agent and channel needs before obtaining a quote.
What Else Can Affect the Bill?
A per-user headline is only part of a useful pricing breakdown. Calculate the proposed service around your numbers, traffic and required tools.
- Seats: How many paid users need which license?
- Numbers: Are extra direct, departmental or toll-free numbers required?
- Usage: Which domestic routes, international destinations and toll-free calls are included?
- Messages: What registration, allowances, segment charges or shared-inbox package applies?
- Add-ons: Which AI, queue, reporting and customer-engagement tools are additional?
- Equipment: Include phones, rental terms, headsets and provisioning.
- Fees: Request applicable taxes, recovery fees and other account charges.
- Migration: Include implementation and overlapping subscriptions.
Do not read domestic unlimited calling as unlimited worldwide calling. Similarly, an ordinary SMS entitlement may not provide the shared customer inbox you need.
Monthly Billing vs Annual Commitment
Compare the payment schedule and commitment separately. An account billed each month can still have a longer contractual obligation, while an annual rate expressed “per month” may be a monthly equivalent.
Review initial term, renewal, cancellation notice and how seat changes are handled. Ask for written confirmation of any condition material to your decision.
Illustrative comparison: Ten licenses quoted at $25 produce a $250 monthly equivalent. Twelve months would total $3,000 before other charges. These figures explain the calculation and are not a RingCentral offer.
Keep the accepted quote and terms. Neither a free trial nor a discounted headline establishes unlimited cancellation flexibility.
How to Choose the Right Option
If you only need online meetings, start by checking the current free video offering. If you need a company number and ongoing customer calls, evaluate a paid phone subscription and its trial.
For shared customer texts, confirm the appropriate package. For a dedicated agent operation, obtain a RingCX proposal. For automated answering, compare standalone AI Receptionist with the full cost of a RingEX-plus-add-on arrangement.
Ask the provider to price the same list of requirements used for alternatives. Include subscriptions you will retain after switching; they do not become savings merely because another service bundles a similar tool.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is RingCentral Completely Free?
No. Free video access and temporary trials are different from ongoing paid business phone service.
How Long Is the RingEX Trial?
The US pricing FAQ advertises 14 days for eligible new subscribers. Verify the terms presented at signup.
Can I Test SMS During the RingEX Trial?
The published FAQ says SMS is not available for trial use. Arrange a separate demonstration if messaging is essential.
Is RingCentral Video Free?
RingCentral advertises a free online-meeting option. Check current account limits and availability; it is separate from a paid business-phone license.
Is the RingCentral App Free?
Downloading an app does not grant every service. Calling and other capabilities depend on account entitlement.
Is AI Receptionist Included Free With RingEX?
The published pricing describes a paid add-on from $39 per month with 100 minutes, or standalone service from $49. Verify current entitlements rather than assuming every AI product is included.
Can I Cancel After One Month?
Check the accepted agreement. Monthly payment does not necessarily establish a one-month commitment.
What Is the Best Way to Compare Prices?
Request equivalent written quotes for required users, numbers, traffic, features and contract terms. Compare the full estimate rather than only the entry seat rate.
The Answer: Free Access Is Product-Specific
RingCentral offers ways to try or use selected services without an immediate full subscription, but RingEX is not a permanent free business-phone plan. Identify the product, read the trial terms and obtain the complete paid quote before moving important numbers or workflows.
