RingCentral is our overall recommendation for businesses prioritising employee communications and connected workflows. Nextiva is our starting choice for an eligible, budget-conscious small business. 8x8 is our international-calling pick when its licensed calling zones match the destinations the team actually uses. These are editorial recommendations based on requirements, not universal performance rankings.
This comparison focuses on RingCentral RingEX, Nextiva’s business-phone packages and 8x8 Work. Contact-center products are discussed separately because their agent licences, channels and usage terms differ. The best choice is the one that passes your workflow test and offers the best complete cost.
Customer Ratings

| Product listing | Rating | Review count |

| RingEX | 4.2/5 | 1,488 |
| Nextiva | 4.5/5 | 3,653 |
| 8x8 Work | 4.2/5 | 938 |
The review section at the end highlights individual experiences. A higher aggregate rating does not establish that a provider fits your particular calling routes, integrations or contract requirements.

The Providers and Products Being Compared

RingCentral RingEX combines business phone communication with collaboration and connected applications. RingCX is the contact-center buying track. See our RingCentral UCaaS review for the wider employee-communications service.

Nextiva offers Core, Engage and Scale on its current small-business pricing page, plus separate contact-center plans. Choose from the current package descriptions rather than assuming an older Essential, Professional or Power Suite comparison still describes checkout. Our Nextiva review covers the buying considerations.

8x8 Work is the employee calling, meetings and messaging service. 8x8 Engage and Contact Center extend customer-facing workflows. Obtain the exact licence names in the quote because international allowances depend on the product and licence.
1. Pricing: Compare the Package You Need
| Provider / package | Published reference | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| RingCentral RingEX | Current quote | Region, paid users, tier and add-ons affect the offer |
| Nextiva Core | $15/user/month annual equivalent; $23 displayed monthly | Annual SMB offer: new customers with 1–100 employees, paid minimum 12-month term |
| Nextiva Engage | $25 annual equivalent; $50 displayed monthly | Confirm the same eligibility and required features |
| Nextiva Scale | $75/user/month displayed | Confirm billing term and complete CX scope |
| 8x8 Work | Current quote | Do not assume older X2/X4 dollar prices remain available |
Nextiva displays the lowest clearly verified entry price in this comparison. That supports our budget-SMB recommendation, but does not prove it has the lowest complete bill for every business. Features can involve extra licensing, setup or usage charges.
Illustrative five-user subscription calculation
Five eligible Nextiva Core users at $15 per month equivalent equal $75 monthly equivalent, or $900 over 12 months. At the displayed $23 monthly rate, five users equal $115 per month. This excludes extras and is not a complete service quote.
For RingCentral and 8x8, ask sales to price those same five users with the same number count, destinations and features. Do not compare Nextiva’s annual promotion with another provider’s monthly or higher-tier proposal.
| Cost | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Paid seats | Users, shared phones, supervisors and administrators |
| Calling | Included destinations, mobile exclusions and excess rates |
| Numbers and messages | Extra lines, toll-free usage, SMS allowances and registration |
| Workflow features | Recording, analytics, CRM, queue tools and AI |
| Contract | Minimum term, renewal, cancellation and promotional period |
| Deployment | Porting, handsets, installation, training and applicable taxes |
2. Calling Features: Start with the Customer Journey
All three providers offer a broader business communications product than a single telephone number. The useful comparison is how calls enter, ring employees, transfer and reach a fallback.
RingCentral is our first shortlist for organisations that want a flexible employee-phone environment with connected tools. Nextiva is a sensible starting point for a smaller business evaluating phone service alongside customer interactions. 8x8 deserves particular attention where employee calling and international use are part of a wider deployment.
Those recommendations do not replace a call-flow test. Write a journey such as customer calls the main line, selects support, reaches two employees and goes to voicemail if neither answers. Demonstrate it in the quoted tier on each platform.
Shared texting, advanced queues and contact-center supervision can be separate licences or upgrades. Do not infer that an entry business-phone subscription includes every feature shown on the vendor’s website.
Winner for our general employee-phone shortlist: RingCentral. For a simple SMB, price Nextiva’s actual required package before choosing a more complex deployment.
3. Integrations: Verify the Exact Action
RingCentral’s pricing materials identify a broad app ecosystem and APIs. This makes it our integration-first starting recommendation, particularly when the business needs calling connected to several established tools.
Nextiva’s integration directory and pricing materials describe business-app connections, with licensing and setup qualifications. 8x8’s UC page names integrations including Salesforce, Zendesk, Dynamics 365 and Google Workspace. Each connector still needs an action-level check.
Ask a representative to open a CRM record, start the call and find its result afterwards. Verify incoming calls, unknown contacts, duplicates and employee permissions. Logging one activity does not prove two-way contact sync or full ticket handling.
For a Teams deployment, establish whether the proposal supplies carrier connectivity, an embedded app or another calling model. Include Microsoft entitlements where required; a vendor’s Teams logo does not define the complete licence cost.
Our VoIP and CRM integration guide helps turn a connector requirement into a testable workflow.
Winner for our integration-led evaluation: RingCentral. A specific connector that works better in Nextiva or 8x8 can override that general recommendation.
4. AI: Separate Included Assistance from Paid Products
RingCentral advertises an AI Assistant for notes, summaries and writing support, while its pricing page separately lists AI Receptionist and conversation-intelligence extensions. Do not treat those specialist products as included simply because RingEX has AI functions.
Nextiva’s current page labels XBert as an add-on. Scale lists transcription and summaries; verify these in the package required rather than assuming every Core seat includes advanced AI.
8x8 Work advertises meeting summaries, live transcription and noise suppression, with AI Studio available for more tailored voice/digital interactions. Contact-center assistance is a separate scope check.
Use the same sample conversation on each shortlisted offer. Check names, dates, prices and agreed actions against the audio. For an AI receptionist, test uncertain questions, human escalation and any booking or data-access requirement.
Winner for employee productivity in our shortlist: RingCentral. For automated customer handling, compare the separately priced AI product and workflow rather than awarding a winner from the brand’s AI headline.
5. Mobile and Desktop Apps
RingCentral’s official trial information identifies Windows, macOS, Android and iOS app compatibility. Nextiva offers its communications apps, and 8x8 Work provides an employee communications app bringing calls, meetings and messaging together.

An app demonstration should include an incoming call with the mobile screen locked, an outgoing business-number call and moving between office and remote work. Check whether staff can silence work calls after hours without losing the next day’s availability.
For a 50-person remote company, test a small group across normal devices and connections. Headset selection and notifications can matter more in daily work than how attractive a screenshot looks.
Winner: decide through the device pilot. We would start RingCentral’s evaluation for a broader remote-work deployment, but do not claim a universal usability winner without testing.
6. International Calling: 8x8 Has a Strong Conditional Advantage
8x8’s X-Series Helpdesk documents X2 calling zones of 14 countries, X3 of 32 and X4 of 48, subject to licence availability, fair-use terms and route exclusions. This makes 8x8 our first international shortlist when your destinations match.
The country count is not universal unlimited worldwide calling. Some marked destinations exclude mobiles, and premium/special-service or out-of-zone calls are metered. Its Contact Center licences have different pooled usage terms; employee telephony allowances should not be copied onto agent licences.
RingCentral’s US pricing FAQ describes included US/Canada external calling and separate international plans or bundles. It supports international business calling, so it should not be presented as a US/Canada-only product.
For Nextiva, obtain the international destination tariff and number options for your account. We have not established that Core includes an equivalent multi-country unlimited bundle.
Compare the actual route mix: 600 minutes to ordinary landlines in one country is different from 600 minutes to mobile numbers across several markets. Number availability, employee locations and outbound calling zones are separate checks.
Winner for matching international calling zones: 8x8. RingCentral or Nextiva can be the better value when your workload or regional offer differs.
7. Reliability: Contracts and Your Network Both Matter
RingCentral advertises 99.999% reliability, Nextiva publishes a 99.999% uptime claim, and 8x8 Work’s UC page advertises a 99.999% platform SLA. These are vendor statements, not independent measured performance for your location.
Ask for the agreement covering the exact service: measurement period, exclusions, credits and claim process. A percentage does not prove every customer call will connect or that an employee’s Wi-Fi problem is covered.
Test during ordinary network load and plan an internet fallback. Confirm emergency-calling arrangements for office and remote users in the jurisdictions where the service is deployed.
Winner: no defensible universal winner from identical percentages. For an enterprise purchase, select the offer with the required written commitments and a successful site pilot.
8. Customer Support: Make It Part of the Evaluation
Nextiva’s pricing page advertises 24/7 support. That makes support availability part of its SMB appeal, but hours alone do not establish response or resolution quality.
For RingCentral and 8x8, obtain the support level in the quote: channels, hours, escalation, onboarding and any dedicated account management. Ask whether porting and deployment problems have a named owner.
Submit a realistic pre-sale technical question, such as how a required integration handles duplicated customer records. Assess whether the response resolves the question and provides an accountable next step.
For an established business, a good migration process includes temporary numbers, staff training and a fallback. Do not assume the provider handles every step just because the service is cloud-based.
SMB support-led starting recommendation: Nextiva. Confirm the proposed support and onboarding arrangement instead of treating that recommendation as a service guarantee.
9. Small Business: Nextiva Wins the Budget Starting Point
For an eligible five-person business with straightforward phone needs, Nextiva Core’s published annual offer gives a clear subscription starting point. Choose it when the quoted package meets the real workflow and added costs remain reasonable.
RingCentral is a better first evaluation when the small business already needs several integrations, broader employee collaboration or a more involved communications deployment. A small company can have complex requirements.
8x8 becomes particularly interesting when the small team spends heavily on destinations included in its calling zones. A higher seat quote can still produce a lower total bill if it replaces expensive metered traffic.
Budget-conscious SMB winner: Nextiva. For a feature-led SMB, our overall recommendation remains RingCentral; for matching overseas call volume, start with 8x8.
10. Medium and Enterprise Businesses
For a medium organisation, compare administrative work as well as feature lists: adding users, maintaining departments, changing call flows, limiting permissions and reviewing costs.
RingCentral is our overall employee-communications starting choice for a medium or larger company with several connected applications. 8x8 is our conditional international choice when employee calling zones and the wider Work/Contact Center design align.
Nextiva deserves an enterprise evaluation when the project centres on customer experience, orchestration and contact-center requirements. Compare that proposal with the relevant RingCX and 8x8 Contact Center products rather than entry phone plans.
Require a representative pilot, implementation scope and written service terms. The same brand can supply both a straightforward phone package and a much more substantial customer-service deployment.
Clear Winners by Business Scenario
| Business | Recommended winner | Reason and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 5-person startup | Nextiva | Clear eligible Core budget starting point; required functions must fit |
| 20-person sales team | RingCentral | Integration-led employee calling; specialist sales tools need separate pricing |
| 50-person remote company | RingCentral | Broader employee communications evaluation; test staff devices |
| Medium business | RingCentral | Our general choice for connected employee workflows |
| 100+ person international business | 8x8 | Calling-zone advantage if countries, mobiles and licence mix match |
| Contact center | 8x8 for a combined international UC/CC shortlist | Compare actual agent licences, channels and queue requirements; RingCX and Nextiva remain candidates |
| Budget-conscious SMB | Nextiva | Published entry offer is easiest to budget, subject to eligibility and extras |
| Enterprise-grade employee communications | RingCentral | General integration and administration starting recommendation |
| Enterprise with international UC plus contact center | 8x8 | Combined platform evaluation with contractual and licence-specific checks |
These recommendations assume the requirements described in the table. A failed essential integration, an excluded destination or an unsuitable contract can change the result.
Pros and Cons at a Glance
| Provider | Why shortlist it | What to investigate |
|---|---|---|
| RingCentral | Our overall choice for employee communication and app-connected workflows | Quote complexity, specialist add-ons and support entitlement |
| Nextiva | Clear SMB entry pricing and customer-facing package progression | Annual eligibility, extra fees and the exact current product/app |
| 8x8 | International calling zones and combined Work/Contact Center approach | Quote transparency, mobile exclusions and administrator setup |
Do not buy a larger suite merely to satisfy a future possibility. List essential functions, demonstrate them and price realistic expansion before signing.
Final Recommendation
Choose RingCentral as the overall starting point, Nextiva for an eligible budget-conscious SMB, and 8x8 when international calling zones materially improve your business case. The best provider is the one that meets the workflow and contract requirements at the best complete cost.
Before deciding, test the same customer journey, integration action and device scenario on each shortlisted package. Compare a representative month of usage and obtain the proposed term, renewal and support conditions in writing.

Customer Reviews: Experiences to Include in Your Pilot
RingCentral: Matthew M.’s November 11, 2025 G2 review praised platform stability and easy setup but criticised support. Use that as a reason to assess support escalation as well as the app.
Nextiva: Al S.’s September 15, 2026 review praised mobile flexibility and implementation help but wanted easier off-hours call control. Test employee availability rules on the devices you intend to use.
8x8 Work: An IT-services reviewer on August 12, 2026 liked the unified workspace and straightforward interface but described advanced settings and integration setup as requiring extra effort. Include administrator tasks in the demonstration.
